i didn't configure it.
ok, i misunderstood.

perhaps you got an idea on my last problem:
after packing the whole thing back together i ran:
Code:
mkisofs -r -V "cd" -cache-inodes -J -l -o newcd.iso \
-b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat \
-no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table iso/
but got an:
Quote:
mkisofs: Uh oh, I cant find the boot catalog directory 'iso/boot/isolinux'!
i also changed isolinux/isolinux.bin to iso/boot/isolinux/isolinux.bin and iso/boot/isolinux/boot.cat; but that gave me an "Uh Oh" too.

(after installing it i`ll try if it aint more easy to configure it and then run an <lh_config --bootstrap copy> ...)

Did you rename isolinux folder?

To make iso's I usually use the script "make_iso.sh" also found in slax-6.1.2 in /slax folder

just double-click it, choose run or run in terminal
if run in termianl it will ask name
if just run it will make a iso named boot.iso

Code:
#!/bin/bash
# ---------------------------------------------------
# Script to create bootable ISO in Linux
# usage: make_iso.sh [ /tmp/slax.iso ]
# author: Tomas M. <http://www.linux-live.org>
# ---------------------------------------------------

if [ "$1" = "--help" -o "$1" = "-h" ]; then
  echo "This script will create bootable ISO from files in curent directory."
  echo "Current directory must be writable."
  echo "example: $0 /mnt/hda5/slax.iso"
  exit
fi

CDLABEL="SLAX"
ISONAME=$(readlink -f "$1")

cd $(dirname $0)

if [ "$ISONAME" = "" ]; then
   SUGGEST=$(readlink -f ../../$(basename $(pwd)).iso)
   echo -ne "Target ISO file name [ Hit enter for $SUGGEST ]: "
   read ISONAME
   if [ "$ISONAME" = "" ]; then ISONAME="$SUGGEST"; fi
fi

mkisofs -o "$ISONAME" -v -J -R -D -A "$CDLABEL" -V "$CDLABEL" \
-no-emul-boot -boot-info-table -boot-load-size 4 \
-b boot/isolinux/isolinux.bin -c boot/isolinux/isolinux.boot ../.
you sometimes gotta move the script to /boot folder to work
yes, there must be isolinux.bin in isolinux folder

(problem is: you need a user, in debian it works, the user is present after packing the iso back and booting)

thanks for the help, but im stuck (that will need some days i think)

lol. Well, "i`m stuck" means nothing really works at the moment. My main purpose is trying to configure hag and pack it pack.

As said yesterday i tried to do that from a hag-live with the hag.iso (as i needed the squashfs-lmza-tools to do so).
First problem was the network missing, second was i couldnt create the iso back (with mkisofs or -back on debian - genisoimage). So i didnt know if the configuring worked at all.

Ok: i tried to boot into slax: cd is fubar (argghhh)

This morning i installed hag in vbox (via grml2hd) and guess what: after booting the whole screen (also the host) freezed.

-----
Ok, i did a second installation in vbox and it seem to have worked.
Im gonna install the vbox-guest-additions now. After that i`ll configure it
(just to give it a try).
From what i understand so far gmrl-live seems to be quite similar to live-helper.
There, in live helper, i could pretty easy create a new iso from the configured system. Command would be like:
lh_config --bootstrap copy and lh_build
or
lh_config -b usb-hdd --bootstrap to be able putting it on an usb.
I guess that wont work with grml-hag, so i`ll have to find out if theres a way to do that with grml-live or another way.

thanks for the links, i had a look and there are good info.

thats what i meant when saying "im stuck" :-) ; i hope till sunday i`ll know how to configure it and pack it back.
greetings

btw: how is it going for you?

LOL
todays attempt will include again trying to remaster grml-medium 2009.05 rc2

j1alu, do you want newest version of grml-medium?
you have to sign up on mailing list, but I have it at my site too
so you don't have to wait...
http://multidistro.com/downloads/grm...009.05-rc2.iso

you know, if Hag has grml-live??

Both hag and grml don't provide the latest squashfs-tools, squashfs-tools-lzma

Do you have USB?

i got grml-live installed on hag -out of box (release is 0.1-20,codename BlackCat)

when it rains it pours: after installing vbox-guest-addtitions i cant open X no more
i could sure put it on a stick, but for unpacking it i need a lot of space.

i`ll check the rc-version you linked too.
ok, maybe some more this evening...

[btw: perhaps you could ask at the mailing list if its possible to copy the complete (configured) system with a command from grml-live... as said with live-helper its pretty easy]

I'll check it out..

Michael Prokop makes GRML, so he's actually closer to you LOL

I couldn't get grml to work either in qemu or my portable-qemu
it works but freaks out at boot

You want portable-qemu to try it on?
My portable-qemu runs from cd/usb/hd on linux or dindows too

How much space you got on HD?

I made a 30gb partition and do all work there

What's Happening Man?@

LOL
OK, I found GRML's no-dhcp at boot stuff

Here's how to set it up for auto eth0/eth1
I only have eth0

Files to edit
Main file

/etc/grml/autoconfig As is

Code:
# check for network devices and run pump for every present network device?
# use script grml-network for interactive configuration and
# /etc/network/interfaces for persistent configuration
# default: yes
CONFIG_DHCP='no'
so, change that to yes

Code:
CONFIG_DHCP='yes'
Now, /etc/default/dhcp3-server and /etc/default/ifplugd

Code:
# Defaults for dhcp initscript
# sourced by /etc/init.d/dhcp
# installed at /etc/default/dhcp3-server by the maintainer scripts
#
# This is a POSIX shell fragment
#
# On what interfaces should the DHCP server (dhcpd) serve DHCP requests?
#	Separate multiple interfaces with spaces, e.g. "eth0 eth1".
INTERFACES=""

Code:
# This file may be changed either manually or by running dpkg-reconfigure.
#
# N.B.: dpkg-reconfigure deletes everything from this file except for
# the assignments to variables INTERFACES, HOTPLUG_INTERFACES, ARGS and
# SUSPEND_ACTION. When run it uses the current values of those variables
# as their default values, thus preserving the administrator's changes.
#
# This file is sourced by both the init script /etc/init.d/ifplugd and
# the udev script /lib/udev/ifplugd.agent to give default values.
# The init script starts ifplugd for all interfaces listed in
# INTERFACES, and the udev script starts ifplugd for all interfaces
# listed in HOTPLUG_INTERFACES. The special value all starts one
# ifplugd for all interfaces being present.
INTERFACES=""
HOTPLUG_INTERFACES=""
ARGS="-q -f -u0 -d10 -w -I"
SUSPEND_ACTION="stop"
you gotta change those for your device(s)
for dhcp3-server:

Code:
INTERFACES="eth0 eth1"
for ifplugd

Code:
INTERFACES="eth0 eth1"
HOTPLUG_INTERFACES="eth0 eth1"
ARGS="-q -f -u0 -d10 -w -I"
SUSPEND_ACTION="stop"
Last Step is to copy your /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf to grml's /etc/resolv/resolv.conf and overwrite it

here's my resolv.conf from running grml usb

Code:
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 71.252.0.12
nameserver 71.242.0.12
search linksys
Here's the default grml resolv.conf

Code:
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
You may hjave to also add Your /etc/resolvconf/run/interfaces/*
file to that folder; mine is called "eth0" and says

Code:
search linksys
nameserver 71.252.0.12
nameserver 71.242.0.12
If you wanna make the squashfs so it will get auto-dhcp on any computer
you probably should just Edit

/etc/grml/autoconfig

/etc/default/dhcp3-server

/etc/default/ifplugd

See if just editing those works

NOTE, for the chrooting/remastering you will have to set it up as above, coping your resolv.conf, etc etc

OH
also, I got rid of iceweasel and got latest Opera 9.6
it runs a little faster too I think
You gotta uncomment the opera from your /etc/apt/sources.list.grml
or add this if you don't have it

Code:
# opera:
  deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ unstable non-free
then do apt-get update
it will say it can't get opera gpg key

follow this guide then

http://wiki.debian.org/Opera

So, where are you at on Yours?

i got it installed in vbox now. but trying to rebuild it with lh_config --bootstrap failed twice (for grml-live i couldnt find a similar command yet). I will try now again, after that some other methods.

on the slax-cd i downloaded there doesnt seem to be no folder slax or slax/tools.

Yeah bro, in the slax iso is 2 folders boot and slax
in slax folder is tools folder

get the slax tar.gz for usb and get it from there too

Also, go check out /usr/share/docs dude
it's got lots of grml stuff and a editable config file called grml-live.conf or similar
you can set parameters for how it makes it..

I got the Xnest jiggy jank going, but it starts fluxbox, not the grml default fluxbox
I don't know how to start grml fluxbox in Xnest
I tried "grml-x fluxbox and it don't work

Where are you at on this??

same here, i got no idea (thing is: after installing it via grml2hd its the same).

after all failed (due to this-or-that reasons) i right now am trying it with remastersys.

well: that might be an idea, reading the docu`s every now and then
i`ll have a look at that later.

I would simply unpack it, but didnt get further with the net-connection problem.

i think i`ll stick with the debian way of doing it (via live-helper), but found some good how-to`s.

Hey
I just chatted it up with Mr Prokop; he says dhcp should work and for me to get a daily snapshot download
http://daily.grml.org/

I got the grml-medium-sid and dhcp worked right away dude

also, to start grml fluxbox, add this bootcode to syslinux.cfg/menu.lst, etc

Quote:
startx=wm-ng
or from command line
Quote:
su - grml -c grml-x fluxbox
also, read at the bottom of that page too
about base.tgz files for remastering

Quote:
The base.tgz files can be used for the base chroot/debootstrap system within grml-live.
So, what are your thought?

I just remastered latest PMagic last night, it's pretty easy too
PMagic is a great distro just for browsing web, LOL

ok, this way it worked:
i installed hag in virtualbox, configured it ( a bit), installed remastersys
(from deb http://www.geekconnection.org/remastersys/repository debian/
without keyring) and ran "remastesys backup".
I moved the installable backup iso over to hard-disk and booted it in virtualbox. The changes were saved.
(starting x i had a bit of problems till i copied the xorg.conf from the hard-disk installation).

as i got different error-messages during the build of remastersys i dont know if all went fine (yet)

---
i put this in .xinitrc
Quote:
startx=wm-ng
and got it. running the other command (su -grml -c grml-x fluxbox didnt work)
