im a currently trying to install Debian 3.0 rc1 (i have downloaded all 7 cds and am ready to burn which ever i need) and, when the Base Installation begins, i get an error. This error is the following:
Base Installation Error
debootstrap exited with an error (return value 1)
<Continue>
i see that it is validiating many different files on the cd, could this be because the cd is invalid (when i burned the cds using easy cd creator, i did test and record)
thanks
First off, you don't need all 7 cd's -- the first will suffice. Second, what is your boot method? If you're able to boot off the cd, then I won't ask you if you've correctly burned the image onto disc.
My preferred workaround for any Debian install problem is to put the cds away, dig up six floppies, install the base system from those and net install everything else (provided I'm working with a fast connection). You can choose a minimal setup and apt-get packages as you need them.
i am not so sure that i will be able to net install anything because i am not positive i will be able to get my PCMCIA network card (im installing on a laptop) the card is compatible with linux (i have the drivers also burned on a cd. its a netgear fa511) but i am currently downloading at 2.5 mb/s off of the ftp server so getting the 7 cds is not an issue for me. i am going to re-burn the cd and see if that fixes the problem, otherwise ill be back
i checked the sums and the were different so i downloaded a new iso however this iso also didn't work. but i figured that it must be an option im doing that is making the error, so i checked the partitions and realized i was trying to install it on the wrong partition thanks for the help, hopefully the rest of the install will go smoothly
