automount

Hello !

I would like to know what kind of automount features are available by default in sarge.
I
have seen distros where kde would add an icon on the desktop when plugging a usb device.
Also clicking on the cdrom icon would auto mount it, etc ...

But I would be interested in options/packages that would not depend on kde/gnome/ ... but would work on any window manager.

What are the various options do I have if I would like to be able to automount partitions (if i do not want them all mounted at bot time, removable media (such as usb key, digital cameras via usb, cdroms, dvds)?

which packages/config file?
what are the advantages/drawbacks of each options?

Any interesting howtos or web pages about this ?

Thanks!

This needs a 2.6 kernel (which is available in Sarge). For auto mounting USB devices (make ure to add vfat support in he configuration file /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf and read the warnings stated there):
Code:
apt-get install usbmount
Also, for general automounting (I think this may also work for USBs):
Code:
apt-get install autofs
For GNOME:
Code:
gnome-volume-manager
