automatix for etch

is there an automatix or similiar program for etch?

Nope. It's a Ubuntu/Mepis/derivative program, not usable on Debian. As there is no source available you can't install it on Debian. You are advised not to install this on Etch, as it will not work and most likely break your system because Ubuntu and Debian differ enough for this app to fail.

how about dcconfig from debcentral.org? anyone tried it?

dcconfig is similar to automatix, but not install mvidia drivers.
