automatic kernel upgrade

is there a way to automatically upgrade the kernel?
i was using fedora core 3 and that distro seemed to do it ok
with debian does it have to be done manually?

Make sure you can get update/security from correct ftp site for apt-get in /etc/soruces.list

# vi /etc/sources.list
# /etc/apt/sources.list

deb stable main contrib non-free
deb-src stable main contrib non-free

# The following line is for security updates released by Debian
deb stable/updates main

Now run:

# apt-get update

Then kernel update
# apt-get install kernel-image-whatever

Select particuler version of kernel
# apt-get install kernel-image-whatever=

You can also try synaptic gui program! Read man page apt-get and see urls Good info:
