autofs fails to umount

Autofs in Sarge mounts just fine, but it doesn't umount no matter what I set in /etc/defaults/autofs.

auto.master:

# $Id: auto.master,v 1.3 2003/09/29 08:22:35 raven Exp $
/media /etc/auto.media --ghost --timeout=10

auto.media custom file:

#auto.media
cdrom0 -fstype=iso9660,ro :/dev/hdc
cdrom1 -fstype=iso9660,ro :/dev/hdd
floppy0 -fstype=auto,rw,user :/dev/fd0
usb0 -fstype=vfat,rw,user :/dev/sda1

Is it an autofs bug, a wrong setting, a kernel bug?

(sarge, 2.6.7, autofs 4.1.3-4)

Other sources on the net seem to say that it's unreliable for cdrom's and the likes. I do have nfs running flawlessly on a server nfs share. Apparently it's not meant for any other usage. I now use the Devices applet included in KDE. Gnome has something similar. Works pretty good.
