I am trying to create a Debian installation CD using the deb_netinstall iso image. I need to put the X stuff in the pool for this. Can any one give tips on what all modules are required for bringing X server in place.
I am finding Ubuntu as a more friendly in terms of readability !!! ( this is in terms of text reading in office suite and browsers etc ). if any one experience the same feeling, any idea on what could be the magic! they did to achieve this.
Adding X to netinstall? What do you mean? netinstall is a minimalistic debian distro, AFAIK, which is not useful for much else than installing the full distro. I don't think netinstall even can start X. Just burn the iso, start netinstall, install the full distro, and then you have all the graphical bells and whistles.
Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded the binary iso image debian-31r4-i386-netinst.iso ( and it is almost 114 MB in size ). This is a hobby work I am doing - planning to author CD based on Debian. I could install this image in my vmware system but that gives only text mode. So thought of adding packages one by one and make my own tuned customised Debian CD !!. Any pointers in this line is most welcome.
I could see one available-hooks.txt file in debian repository. That is not very discriptive. Can any one get me some more detailed document which describe the step by step procedure of creating a customised CD image based on debian.
OK, I see. So you intend to create a new minimalistic distro? Unfortunately I cannot help you much here. But have you checked all the minimalistic distros there around? E.g. 'puppy' and 'dams samll linux' might be interesting distros to look at.
