Are there any GUI config utils in debian

Hi,

I was using SuSE 9.3, and now I'm wondering whether debian might be the right distro for me (I have Debian Sarge running on a PowerPC, and it works like a wonder - however, it was preinstalled and preconfigured). Debian's packaging system feels superior (to me) to RPM-based distros.

So the question is: Are there any good GUI configuration utils in Debian? What about package management? Are there any GUI apt frontends?

I'm currently devoting most of my free time to microcontrollers, so I would like to have a powerful linux system up and running as fast and pain-free as possible (spend hours delving into .conf files seems to have lost the attraction it used to have - besides, I don't have the time to re-learn linux).

Thanks for your answers!

Regards,

Gonzalo

There are 2 options:
a) aptitude, is a ncurses frontend on the commandline. Spartan, but no X required.
b) Synaptic, full GUI frontend for apt. Very informative, but needs a working graphical system.

Thanks for your answer!
I plan to have X11 + Gnome installed anyway, so Synaptic sounds nice.

What about configuration utilities?

Gnome has a few config tools build in, but may not be what you require. There are more config options for KDE. In fact, KDE has so much options many new users don't know what to do with them

Well, there is debconf also?
You can change configuration files of packages with
dpkg-reconfigure <package>
which calls debconf

But I don't know if a lot of packages are handled with debconf.
