apt-get stuck at 0%

I am having a funny problem with apt-get. I seem to be able to connect to ok, and I can run apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade, but for some reason I cant run apt-get install <blank>. I have tried installing numerous programs but apt-get always seems to just display 0% with no change. I have recently installed guarddog as well and I enabled both ftp and http transfer so I should be ok with that, but I am not sure, so I might have blocked some transfer protocol which is unknown to me. Apt-get is currently at version for the linux i386, and I am using sarge with a custom 2.6.8 kernel. Thanks!

Have you tried using a different mirror? Sometimes a particular mirror may be down or being maintained, etc, and may be unavailable. If you have tried using 4 or 5 or 6 different mirrors, and none work, post back -- J.W.
