apt-get install - simple question

on a debian sarge, when I've done

> apt-get install pygame

I get

The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
pygame: Depends: python (< 2.2) but 2.3.4-4 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
The solution was to apt-get install "python2.3-pygame" instead of "pygame" but I'm surprised that the apt-get application didn't notify it like it's often doing in the same kind of situation...

How to change this kind of things ? (I mean, specify the new name of >2.2 pygame package when trying to install the simple pygame one)
And will I have rights to do it ?
