apt-get install <program>-mysql -- what does this do?

I just have a quick question. I was following a Snort setup guide and it told me to do apt-get install snort-mysql. I just wanted to understand the functionality of such a command where you specify a program and then do a -mysql (snort-mysql). Does this configure an SQL database for that specific application or what?

Type
Code:
apt-cache show snort-mysql
Quote:
Description: flexible Network Intrusion Detection System [MySQL]
Distribution of Snort with support for logging to a MySQL database.
.
Also, from
Code:
apt-cache search -n snort
Quote:
snort-mysql - flexible Network Intrusion Detection System [MySQL]
snort-pgsql - flexible Network Intrusion Detection System [PostgreSQL]
snort - flexible Network Intrusion Detection System
It's giving you the choice between MySQL support, Postgresql support, and no database support.

From apt-cache show snort:
Quote:
This package provides the plain-vanilla version of Snort and does not
provide database (available in snort-pgsql and snort-mysql) support.

Zero, thanks man. That's pretty much what I was thinking it meant, but I wasn't 100% clear. Now I am. And I didn't know you could get that info with the apt-cache. Thanks for that too.
