apt-get equavilent of..


Any idea whats the apt-get equavilent of ..

1) yum info (to see whats the latest package version from sources.)
2) rpm -qa (to list all the debian packages installed on the local system)

1) apt-cache showsrc <package>
2) dpkg -l * (i reccomend something like aptitude (apt-get install aptitude) tho)

Whats aptitude for? need it for dpkg?

Can I say that apt-get is equivalent of yum and dpkg is equivalent of rpm?

heya,

Here is some information about aptitude. If you ask me you should install synaptic. If you want to install aptitue or synaptic just open your console and type apt-get install aptitue. This command will install aptitude and their dependencies. In case you want to know information about some packet just type in your console apt-cashe show aptitude.
