apt-get dist-upgrade removed packages
Hi guys,
I am running a mix of Testing/sid. Only Iceweasel and Fluxbox packages are from sid. Other than that the whole system is testing. I installed it from unstable just to be able to manage the mixed system. Now yesterday, when I dist-upgrade, I saw messages saying removing so and so package. And iceweasel, synaptic, xsane, kdeartwork, kscreensaver-xsavers etc were removed from the system. I had to make a list and install them again. My question is: why these packages got removed ? How can I keep track of such removed packages to install them again ? thanks and regards, Hardik |
Whatever upgrade manager you are using (apt-get from console, synaptic, aptitude, etc) should warn you before doing a dist-upgrade.

Are you using apt-pinning to properly manage your mixed system ?

Thanks all for you inputs.
@farslayer I had already read the how-to from your first link and changed my /etc/apt/apt.conf accordingly, but I did not know about the second one (apt-pinning). I will do some reading and come back if I have problems. regards, Hardik |
