Apt-get build-dep and Pinning

Hello,

I'm running Debian Etch at the moment and want to install Mozilla-Firefox. My sources list contains the folllowing:
Code:
#testing
deb ftp://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
deb-src ftp://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free

#unstable
deb ftp://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
deb-src ftp://ftp.nl.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free

#security
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free

#Skype
deb http://download.skype.com/linux/repos/debian/ stable non-free

#extra software
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ etch main
I've set up Pinning which points to the testing repository as default (I needed the udev package from unstable in order to be able to install alsa in testing). Now I want to get the build-dependencies for mozilla-firefox in testing. However, 'apt-get build-dep mozilla-firefox' seems to ignore my pinning set-up as it tries to get the build-deps from unstable.

I want to get the build-deps from testing. Next I want to get the source from unstable. I will have to remove some things in the debian/rules to get it too compile on testing, but that won't be a problem.

Does anybody know how I can tell 'apt-get build-dep' which repository to use???

Hi McCloud,

This apt-pinning guide has some info.

Based on that, I'd try apt-get build-dep mozilla-firefox/unstable, which should fill dependencies from your pin-priority repository, i.e. testing.

I've not tried it myself, though.

That doesn't work, I tried that before I even opened this topic.

'apt-get buil-dep mozilla-firefox/testing' tells me that it can't find a package called 'mozilla-firefox/testing'.

I think that the build-dependencies part of apt doesn't support pinning. I've solved the problem by manually installing the build-dependencies. I have now Mozilla Firefox 1.0.6-3 running in testing
