Anyone got a good Debian based kernel image conf file that I can use

I am going to try and build my own kernel v 2.4.21.

Anyway, I have started it - following the guide here:-

For Debian.

I have never compiled Kernel before, not afraid - as just confused by what I need to install - its basically for a laptop, wanting USB and pcmcia sypport. I am trying to read the help by each option - and in alot of cases - getting more confused than when I started with.

I know where the optios are to configure ext3, but I was wondering - has anyone produced a good laptop configuration file, that I can load, and then just change what I need ef what processor etc. That way I know the basics are already done, and it will load relatively quickly.

Well - basically - the laptops a Compaq Presario 1200 xl-103 - Amd 450 Mhz processor.

I will or course need USB support and the sound is a VIa86 I think, and need support setup for the USb Pegasus NIC - which is experiemental.
Of course ext 3 will be needed.

Also - will need to hook up my 6 in ! USB card reader - no printers will be using it - execpt I will need at some point to hook up my parallel port zip drive..

Is that easy to build?

Can anyone help?

If you are wanting to build a kernel specific to you hardware you really need to find out exactly what you hardware is! If you can currently boot up from a generic kernel from debian, type lspci

If you have Debian already installed on your laptop using the generic kernel, then just copy the /boot/config-2.x.x-whateva file to the /usr/src/linux directory and rename it .config...then when u run make menuconfig, you can add and remove whatever you need and dont need.
