Here is the output from the cat command. I seem to notice that eth0 says IEEE-1394.
Quote:
home11:/home/endi1111# cat /var/log/dmesg | grep eth
forcedeth.c: Reverse Engineered nForce ethernet driver. Version 0.56.
forcedeth: using HIGHDMA
eth0: forcedeth.c: subsystem: 0103c:30b7 bound to 0000:00:14.0
eth1394: eth0: IEEE-1394 IPv4 over 1394 Ethernet (fw-host0)
home11:/home/endi1111#
I also just copied the firmware files to /lib/hotplug/firmware.

can anyone give me any help as to why eth0 is trying to be my firewire...and not recognizing my wireless card...........................
How can I get Debian to recognize my lexar 1gb flash drive? It worked OK in FC6 and F7!!
What do I need to do to change file access for user?

Does anyone have an idea why eth0 is being recognized as my firewire? I don't see this issue anywhere on Linux-on-Laptops in the HP section. ???????????????????

It's normal for the Firewire port to be identified as an ethernet interface.. don't worry about it. You can search for how to blacklist it later if you want.

I suggest you start a NEW thread for the other items you want addressed (USB flash drive, etc.. ) , rather than trying to get them all answered in a single forum thread. too confusing to work on multiple items in a single thread at one time.

When you modprobed the bcm43xx driver did you get any error messages ?

what is the output of the command lsmod | grep bcm43xx ?

what is the output of the command iwlist eth2 scan ?

I have all ready added eth1394 to my blacklist.
I get no error messages when I modprobe bcm43xx.
lsmod | grep bcm43xx:
Quote:
home11:/home/endi1111# modprobe bcm43xx
home11:/home/endi1111# lsmod | grep bcm43xx
bcm43xx 429056 0
firmware_class 15616 1 bcm43xx
ieee80211softmac 33792 1 bcm43xx
ieee80211 36680 2 bcm43xx,ieee80211softmac
iwlist eth2 scan:
Quote:
home11:/home/endi1111# iwlist eth2 scan
eth2 Interface doesn't support scanning.
and I get the same thing when I iwlist eth0 scan.
Through some other advice I have purge removed network manager/gnome. Edited my /etc/network/interfaces file:
Quote:
# 1394
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

# The primary network interface wired
allow-hotplug eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp

# wifi
iface eth2 inet dhcp
wireless-essid NETGEAR

auto eth1
auto eth2
Now I am just trying to find ouf if my essid should be NETGEAR. This is the wireless router that I have in my house. I also noticed before that my "auto" was eth0, and eth1...now it is eth1, and eth2.

Lets see if we can figure out what eth interface is using the bcm driver..

ethtool -i eth0
ethtool -i eth1
ethtool -i eth2
ethtool -i eth3

this is really odd...

Have you tried leaving the card plugged in and rebooting the laptop then checking /var/log/dmesg for errors / information ?

It isn't a matter of plugging my card in. I have a built in "broadcom corp Dell wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-PCI Card rev 2 on a HP Pavillion dv6000. The outputs of ethtool are:

I have just rbooted my network with "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart" and this is what I get:

You don't by chance have it disabled in the BIOS ? I don't see mention of of the device at all in the dmesg log..

Post output of:

lspci

rmmod bcm43xx
modprobe bcm43xx
tail -n 20 /var/log/messages

I would have expected a bit more in the log after the driver module was loaded... like the device coming on line or something...

You've got me stumped.. I ditched my Broadcom card in favor of an ralink card (PCMCIA) so I can't even throw my old card in to have a peek..

Maybe give it another shot using ndiswrapper..
