anti virus

Hi all. I was wondering if there is any way i can snuff out any malware on my server. It keeps rebooting but maybe its because someone keeps kicking the power cable to the machines connected to it. Im getting paranoid as to why it cant keep uptime. So i'd like to know if i could use an AV for debian if it exist. Thanx in advance!

Search this site for "root kit". Several posts have recommended root kit hunters that will search for root kits and root kit behavior. If you get a positive result, check the response on Google. It could be a common false negative. Viruses are theoretical in Linux, but hackers leaving root kits are real.

Also go to security forum on this site. There are some stickies containing security guidelines. I would be a good idea to read the "sticky" messages that the moderator left. If you have had someone get on your system and get root access, you will have to plan a reinstallation, regardless of which OS you use. You also need to find where the hole was and plug it up, otherwise a hacker can repeat what they did and get in again the same way.

If the power cord got pulled like that, you might have some filesystem corruption instead.
