amd64 kernel >= 2.6.20 doesn't run on asus p5b deluxe

Hello,

did anyone get one of the latest amd64 kernels (2.6.20, 2.6.21) from debian running on an asus p5b deluxe mb? -- The 2.6.18 debian kernel runs perfectly here but the 2.6.20 or 2.6.21 kernels hang short after booting the kernel starts or even reboot the system.

I'm booting from a sata disk if that matters.

It does... Debian still has some issues with booting from an SATA disk, due to missing modules in the vmlinuz image. For some reason, the sata drivers aren't included in the standard build of the kernel.

Anyway, what error messages do you get when it hangs? Post them literally, if you can

after some googling I found that I've to

blacklist intel_agp

module (e.g. in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.

The system stopped with some messages like

agpgart ... 965G chipset detected

or something like this.

After blacklisting intel_agp, everything works like expected now.
