AMD64 Etch to Sid?

Hi all,

How instable is Sid right now for the AMD64? I'm currently running Etch on my laptop but might upgrade to Sid. Is it safe or will I get alot of problems?

Yeah, updates are on the sparse side right now for both testing and unstable.

I am running Sid on AMD 64 right now, and I have absolutely no problems whatsoever (that weren't of my own making). I installed Etch from the Netinstall CD, and then used aptitude to upgrade to Sid. Everything went very smoothly. There are updates every few days.

I hope this helps

It's okay - could be better

As with all things, there are good things and bad things.

The one thing that is most frustrating is the lack of Flash support for AMD64.

I'm not interested right now in investing the time to learn how to setup a chroot environment where I could run Flash in 32 bit mode. I'm mostly a casual user, and frankly that's just too much work for right now. Maybe if I was unemployed.

Other than that, I have been very happy with the performance of Sid on my AMD64 chipset.

For me, gnash doesn't seem to work very well. Some sites will detect it as an older version of Flash, and not let me install it.

Agreed, it's far from perfect in a Flash9 world, but for 64-bit it's the only game in town, and it's a big improvement over no Flash at all.

Yes, it is. What's your point?

When I go to youtube.com, I do not get a video. I get a message telling me to download the latest flash player.

He's suggesting that you have a look at the program. No need to be an asshat.

Its a little annoying having to download the flash vidoes manually and then run gnash to view the flash animation. at least it gives some relief to the AMD64 flash issue.

i'm running AMD64 Sid on my home PC. fastest desktop i have had in a very long time.
