AMD ATHLON 64 X2 3800+ 2.00GHZ AM2 and Debian

Hi,
has anybody had any experience with Etch and an "AMD ATHLON 64 X2 3800+ 2.00GHZ socket AM2" or similar (different GHZ)? I searched the HCL and found working 939 x2 AMD CPUs, but no am2 x2 CPUs.

It is not the processor you need to worry about a Debian kernel newer than/including 2.6.17 should see both processors and use them. The main parts you need to check are the chipsets on the motherboard and the support for them in the kernel you will run, so check your motherboard for compatibility.

I'm running Sid on an X2 4200, and it flies. I installed Etch and immediately upgraded. As stated above, the processor really isn't an issue, just make sure you don't install Sarge, but rather use Etch and everything will be cool.

There are glowing reviews for the 4200 here, and although the 3800 will be a bit slower, it still is a rock solid processor.

The price has fallen so much on these! I got it 9 months ago for like $290 or so, and now it is $150! The 3600 is under $95. Unreal.

Peace,

I am running that particular system and have run Etch and sidux (100% debian sid compatible)
Both run perfectly, all hardware and both processors fully working.

I am running vector, PC-BSD and have run gentoo in the past and both Etch and sidux compare to them all for speed (depends what you install though I suppose).
