Alternative to Update-Notifier
 

I'm running Stretch stable with backports and am looking for an alternative to Update-Notifier, which is not in the stable archive. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You can always run "sudo apt-get update" then "sudo apt-get upgrade" to update your repos and see if any updates are available

There is no program like that in stable.

I can get by using Synaptic, but the added convenience is nice.
