AfterStep 2.0

Anyone have any experience with AfterStep 2.0? How do you use it? I mean how do you change the menu settings, add to the menu, change the icon actions and add icons to the desktop?

I am currently using WindowMaker .92 (love it!) but I want to see if I can use Afterstep on my laptop. It seems very light.

AfterStep 2.0 offers lots of eye candy -- animations etc. I bet it looks even better with Xorg. But the configuration is a usability nightmare, IMO. All configuration is done by editing config files, just like in FVWM. Not very intuitive.

I haven't been able to find a good guide on tweaking these config files. The project's web site offers some kind of "visual documentation" and that is probably going the best (and possibly the only) guide you'll get.

Window Maker is much more intuitive. You can drag appicons with mouse to dock them. And there's a GUI config app. You hardly ever need to edit config files. But I'd like to see in Window Maker a similar pager that FVWM and AfterStep have.

Afterstep 2.0

I agree 100%. Windowmaker is fantastic. I use it now on my PC at home and on a 2.8ghz cpu, 512mb ram PC at work. Sure i could run one of the heavyweights or windows, but Windowmaker is just so much better. And my menus don't suck like they do in KDE!

But I thought it would look cool to have Afterstep on my laptop. I show it to a lot of Windows users.
