After upgrade KDE doesnt start.
Hello Debian Friend,
I just did an upgrade, had not done one for 2 -3 months. I can't log in to kde anymore. It keeps jumping back to the log in screen. In .xsessionerrors I get following error: .xsession: No such file or directory IceWM and other standard Windowmanagers still work just not kde. Is there any other error file I could check and what could be the problem? |

Could you try doing this: apt-get install kdebase konqueror kedit and see if it picks anything else up. If these packages are already installed, they won't install again, but if they're not installed or if something they depend on isn't installed, this will either correct the problem or at least identify what packages or libraries are mismatched. You may then be able to figure otu what's wrong and correct it. Synaptic (a graphical package manager) also has a handy feature that permits you to fix broken links. You may wish to try that, too. |
if .xsession is missing you can create it but i don't think it is the "real solution" for the "real problem" you hadn't identified clearly.

Then I tried KPackage "Fixup" with no luck. Is there anything else I can do - or any information you need? |
I had the same problem when my .xsession file contained errors. If you have a .xsession file in your home-dir, try removing/moving it. Also try adding a new user and start KDE with the new user. If that works maybe there are errors in your .kde directory...?

I don't have .xsession and the error I get is ".xsession: No such file or directory"
I did try to add a new user but that didn't work out. I can't log in with the new user at all. |
Try this:apt-get install kdelibs kdeutils kdepim kdegames kdm kdemultimedia kdeartwork kdeadmin kdegraphics
Then do apt-get upgrade afterwards to get anything else needed. |
Got it working, thank you guys.
