Advantage of wheezy beta3 dvd1 vs cd1?
Hi. I'm currently having "debian-wheezy-DI-b3-amd64-kde-CD-1.iso" and I'm considering to download the wheezy DVD1. But I want to know what are the differences between the cd1 and dvd1.
So, here are my questions.. 1). I can't find specific desktop environment(DE) versions in DVD iso. So what desktop environment will the DVD1 contain? 2). What major additional packages the DVD contains over the cd? Does it contain the additional packages related to DE over cd. 3). DVD should contain non-DE additional packages right? Will these packages be installed by default when i install from DVD ? Or will the dvd install base packages alone , in such case i will have to install the additional packages after os installation. |
Does the target computer have a good internet connection?
If your internet connection is bad, then it's better to use the DVD because you will have more packages available locally (which means less to download). If your internet connection is good, then you should install as little as possible from CD/DVD because then you can download the latest updates from the web. Therefore there would be little reason to choose the DVD and in fact you might even want to go with the netinstall CD which Debian describes as: Quote:

ps The CD/DVD contents are listed in the list folders:

Thank you. I have a slow internet connection.
A quick search in the dvd lists file showed that dvd contains all 4 desktop environments and many packages by default. Definitely dvd is worth downloading. But there will be lot unneccessary packages to download while updating the dvd iso with Jigdo. I will have to bear it. It would be nice if dvd isos have specific desktop versions. |
The DVDs are organized by popularity. If a desktop is popular then it will be on DVD 1.
