Acpitool Hibernate and Mains Power

I’ve heard a lot of griping about how hibernate doesn’t work in Linux, but using acpitool I've been able to go as long as 17 days before having to reboot my machine. And the reason I rebooted was only because I had too many files and applications open and my swap filled up (here’s some advice, if you plan to suspend to disk, make sure you’ve got plenty of swap space: at least 1 GB).

However, there is one little problem with acpitool. When I power on my laptop I find that sometimes it’s running on battery power even though it is connected to mains power. I have found that only after I switch off the mains power and then switch it on again does the laptop detect the mains power. Has anyone else experienced this? Could this be a bug in acpitool or acpi?

Thanks.

P.S. Today, for instance, mains power was detected without any problems.
