Accessing Novell

I would like to access files on a Novell Server. How do I set up my
debian box to do that? Do I need some sort of Novell Client? Do I need to install SAMBA?

Couple things to try.

One way is to use the NCPFS package(s) in conjunction with the nice opensource novel client http://sourceforge.net/projects/novelclient

Another way would be to 'try' to use the native Novell client for linux (search Novell's site), although this client is only intended to be supported/used on NLD9/SuSE9.3 is 'can' be made to work on other distros, but good luck.

Alternate ways could be done using NFS or even FTP, but these would require someone to properly configure those services on the Netware box itself. And depending on the version of Netware you could also try CIFS.

Since You're using Debian, I'd take a look at the sourceforge/ncpfs option first.

Dave

Thanks Dave.... ncpfs is sweet.... I'll take a look at that client you listed. This is pretty cool stuff. Can you use console one on a debian box to manage desktops? I have XP boxes that have Zen installed, and would like to remote to them.

Well, ConsoleOne is java so it should run on anything that supports java, I use C1 on linux all day without issue but I only use it on Suse or NLD.

Sorry tho, I don't do any workstation support so I'm not sure how the remote feature would work from a linux box. Were just getting ready to roll out Zen7 so mabye I'll get a chance to fool around with it.

You could just use one of the many RDP tools for linux to use the remote desktop support feature of XP even though it kind of defeats the purpose of one of Zen's nicest features.

Load up C1 and see how remote control works and let us know.

Oh, one more thing, if you get C1 working and don't want to mess with getting SLP configured on your debian box just put an IP address of a server that is running SLPDA in the TREE field when C1 asks you to login.. if you have SLP properly configured in your environment you'll me happier if you get it setup properly on your debian box but it's not mandatory.

Curious to know if the Novell Client for Linux works on debian tho....

Dave
