2nd hard drive
 
I have a second hard drive and when I try cfdisk /dev/hdb, the system locks up completely. I have to reset. Any suggestions? Debian Woody

Are you certain that the second drive is at /dev/hdb (primary slave)? Maybe it's at /dev/hdd (secondary slave) or /dev/hdc (secondary master) -- J.W.

The second hard drive is a Western Digital

:~# cat /proc/ide/hdb/model
WDC WD102AA

You might try to move it to the other IDE cable. If an IDE interface fails on a cable it may block the other interfaces on the same cable.

Check the jumpers on the drive and make sure it is set to slave instead of cable select.
