You would need to upgrade modutils, etc also. If you want to run a 2.6 system I suggest upgrading to SID.

In the most recent (01/2004) Linux Magazine (in Germany at least) there is a step-by-step procedure given (Debian and SuSE). Haven't tried myself so far, so no promises. Good luck

You need the backport of the module-init-tools for Woody and either compile using the kernel-package program your own kernel or a 2.6 kernel image from the Debian archives which only seem to be in unstable:
Code:
[04:08 PM Fri Jan 16: stephen @ ~]
>$ apt-cache policy kernel-image-2.6.0-1-k7
kernel-image-2.6.0-1-k7:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.6.0-2
  Version Table:
     2.6.0-2 0
        600 http://ftp2.de.debian.org unstable/main Packages

kernel-image-2.6.0-1-386:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.6.0-2

     2.6.0-2 0
