[SOLVED]Passed on installing 7 remaining disks on install. What now?
Hello, Folks:
I am having trouble with adding a cdrom to my repo list using apt-cdrom. I did some looking around and found out that a way to start fixing the issue is to install the remaining DVDs, as I only installed one when I installed a recent time ago.
So now that I have been running Debian Squeeze for some weeks now, and I want to go ahead installing the remaining DVDs, how do I go about doing that. I know that downloading them of course, is a good start, and then burning them to disc would be the next step, but beyond that I believe that if I just put in Disc 2 and rebooted, I might lose something, and that I certainly do not want to happen.
Your help is greatly appreciated...thanks in advance!

Reason: Solved.
You don't want to do that. It is even impossible to do that. You can't install the complete Debian repository, which is what you would be trying to do, without breaking the system (happily your package manager wouldn't allow you to do this easily).
You only need one DVD to install a working Debian system. The other DVDs have only one purpose: To make it possible to easily install software on systems without access to the repositories (like Internet or a local mirror of the repositories).
Please view the error message printed below that shows up when I try to search for updates. I try to search for updates because in the attachment image files presented in this post, Screenshot-1.png keeps popping up and there hasn't been anything that I am able to do about it yet, and I have tried a lot of different things. I believe that if I could just get my system updated, then I would be able to get that problem fixed. But, to get my system updated, I have to get the error resolved with Screenshot-2.png. That is my so-called "educated" guess, and that is all I have to go on.
Right, let's tackle this one step at a time. First, check in the internet connection is working (if you post from that system on this forum, skip the step because it works then ) Given your screenshot I assume you work with Synaptic. Open Synaptic as usual, then select Settings -> Repositories -> Third Party software. It'll list repositories known by your system. On top is (at least) one marked CDROM. Untick the checkbox in front. Go back to the tab "Debian Software" and check at least the top repo (main) and select a server near you. It's recommended to check all of these boxes, but that choice is yours. Then head over to the Updates tab and check the "Security updates" box. Close at the bottom. Now click on Reload in the main Synaptic program and then update your system.
I am in Idaho, and I tried U of Idaho, U of Chicago, and CSUC Berkeley. I get an error message when I reload that appears like the one in the attached image file. I also checked all four of the boxes in the Debian Software tab before I clicked "Reload". Yes, I am on the computer having the trouble. And, yes, I have a strong wi-fi signal, and, thus, a strong connection.
Do you have the machine connected to the Internet?
Also, please post the contents of the file /etc/apt/sources.list
