[Debian 7.1 Wheezy x64] Suddenly gnome 3 freezes
Hi, I'm using Debian 7.1 and sometimes gnome 3 just freezes, I still can move the cursor but can't do nothing beyond that. Just change to tty, anyone has something to say about that?

did you check the relevant log files? Eg:

This used to happen to me, but hasn't in a while.

Can you keep can eye on top, does CPU usage go to 100% when this happens? IIRC it was an issue with the "intel" graphics driver and some IGPs. Those affected would see their CPU usage go to 100%, and the lock up would happen.

The good news is I have been running jessie since he became testing, and that problem has more or less disappeared (happens very rarely, and sometimes can even wait it out).

I currently have a similar problem with kde4 on a Debian 7.1 x64 install. Xorg would start spiking with usage up to >80% and everything would slow to a crawl. Maybe try "top" and see if your problem is related to Xorg as well. I have tried various fixes but after an hour or two the same cpu spikes recurs. I have since switched to xfce4 desktop and the problem has disappeared.

Tanks guys, I supposed to be some bug about Intel graphics as you said, the problem is that there is no driver for my NVIDIA, Geforce 625M, and I have to use intel graphics, acctualy I'm using mate which is very better than gnome-hell 3. Again, Tanks for you help.

I had this in Fedora and Debian 7.x, I switched to Crunchbang since it uses OpenBox and I don't have this issue anymore. However, I cannot switch GPUs, and it destroys my battery (which is okay because this laptop is a desktop replacement that I lug around).

FYI. My laptop is a Dell with an Intel IGP and an Nvidia discrete GPU which no way to disable it in the BIOS.
