[config] apt architecture

hi !

i would like to get i686 deb pkgs, but i don't know which file i have to modifie for this. Here is the output of apt-config :

I think i have to change /etc/apt/apt.conf, but this file doesn't even exist...

When i put "APT::Architecture "i686";" into the /etc/apt/apt.conf file, it makes a lots of connection errors.

Is it possible to say to apt that if the package exist in i686 i'd prefer to download this one instead of the i386 one.. ?

It's just a question, maybe i don't understand everything of the apt tools
