It works great on Debian on the same computer, but it doesn't work in DamnSmall. It doesn't work with Vesa or that other one (can't remember the name)

I need to get it working on DamnSmall for reasons other than to use it as my main desktop, so Please no "Just use a different light distro like puppy" or anything like that (Not to say puppy is bad, i actually use it all the time on one computer)
the error:
"XIO: fatal IO Error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining."
and it ONLY does that on eJWM, not JWM, not Flux. I know it works with vesa too, as one of my friends uses vesa and eJWM. Does anyone know the answer? Anyone seen this error? I've asked some friends, can't find anything so I thought I'd post here.
