DamnSmall doesn't include kernel source code, although I don't see what would stop you from downloading and installing it yourself. Head on over to www.kernel.org and grab the source of the kernel your using, and extract it to the /usr/src/linux directory. You can use the command "uname -a" to find out your kernel version.

Hope this helped.

You can also download the source using the wonderful apt tool Just search for the available kernel sources:

apt-cache search kernel-source

Then choose whichever version you want:

apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.26

Don't forget to grab some of your needed tools:

apt-get install debhelper kernel-package dpkg-dev libncurses5-dev

For a great article on recompiling the kernel on debian, check out:

myrddin.org/howto/debian-kernel-recompile.php

good luck,

ok I got the Kernel source and put it in the /usr/src/linux
Since I have talked with you I actually installed
Feather Linux instead. I just wanted to see if that would
would better.
Isnt it based on DSL or Knoppix?
So i dont know if you could help me with that?
Or would i have to reinstall DSL for your help?

my feather linux is the current version
it has the 2.4.26 kernel

copied the source to the directory
when i do a make config
it says that make is not found

and when i just type Configure same thing.

When i do it in the file browser (gui) and click on the
Configure file it acts like it wants to work

it will give me
Build Prism2.5 USb (usb) driver? (y/n) :
when i put Y it just says
end of out put

and when i type yes
it just gives me a ton of "y's" like its messed up or something...

Please help
Thankx.

It seems that Feather is based on Knoppix, _and_ steals a few things from DSL, but shouldn't be too far off from DSL. Remember, this is a DSL forum though...

Remember, Knoppix has the XFS patched kernel. That means that you will need to find a binary from the APT repository with these patches, or you will need to download them yourself. (http://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/) (This is actually one reason that I am phasing out Knoppix-based distros, back to pure Debian...)

I am confused here... Are you talking about the kernel source, or the wireless card sources? If the kernel, then you should follow the instructions that I wrote above. They will compile the kernel sources as you need them to be, before you can build your wireless card modules.

For more help, check out my docs at:

http://www.erikin.com/index/Docs/lin...22/debiandlink

This explains how I got my D-Link DWL-122 to work with Debian. It should take you through it step-by-step, and shouldn't be too different than feather... (I also have the .config file there so that you can use it as a starting point for your machine).

thanks,
