Using WINE and DSL to create a live games CD/DVD?
Hey,
Has anybody ever tried to use DSL and WINE to create a liveCD or liveDVD for playing their favourite Windows games?
Specifically, I'm wondering if a World of Warcraft liveDVD would work. It would be great for when I'm visiting boring relatives and I want to slip away for a bit and lose myself in Azeroth.
Since all your characters' data is saved on the WoW server, and Blizzard gets paid from subscription fees rather than from sales of the game itself, this would make an ideal LiveDVD game if someone was able to get it to work properly.
According to the WINE web site, WoW is listed as a "Gold" level game, meaning that it runs well (but not perfectly) under WINE, but requires a little tinkering. I'm curious if this tinkering can be done in advance so it loads automatically when the liveDVD boots.
The only real limitation I see is that you'd have to remaster the sucker from scratch every time there's a new WoW patch, unless you could figure out a way to save the patches on a USB key using the MyDSL system.
If anybody has had experience with this sort of idea, either with WoW specifically or any other popular Windows games, please feel free to share with the group.
