some problems regarding DSL 8.2. PLz respond:)

I have come to the conclusion that the 8.2 version does not like old machines .
I have a small LAN with 4 machines.

Tow of them are P4 @3.0Ghz, one is an AMD K6 333Mhz and the other is a laptop i just got today Pentium MMX 133Mhz 80MB RAM. ( ibm thinkpad 380ed)

DSL 8.2 booted just fine on my pentiums. IT did give me some problems with the AMD. It would freese at boot up and i had to restart like 3 times then it finally worked.

NOw the laptop story....

I got an error saying md5sum error please check your cd press return to reboot. I said to myself it can't be since this is the same CD i used to boot my other machines. I burned another ISO and same error again.

PLease note that this laptop came with WinME and i had to format the hard drive ASAP

So i booted it again with DSL 7.2 and it booted just fine with no problems but i had to enter fb800x600 at bott. I Installed 7.2 and all is fine now but i do not know why 8.2 would not boot??

What do you think?

I just did a HDD install of dsl 8.2 on an AMD K6-2. The BIOS's (Award 4.51PG) built-in boot-sector virus protection displayed a "boot virus" warning. (unsupported operating system)...later, i disabled the feature...
....anyway, it may be worth a look in your BIOS settings if nothing else works.
Good luck
ps: this system booted fine w/ RedHat 7.2

DSL 0.8 uses isolinux, where 0.7 used syslinux. The kernel is no longer limited in size, but this causes problems with some older hardware. If this is your problem, you might want to download the 0.8.0 floppy image and try booting from that.

You can probably boot up with only the floppy in the drive and insert the CD when required. I don't know this from experience, though.

I think that choosing the proper key is dependent on your BIOS. On my machine, it's "Delete". You may get a message onscreen telling you which key to press for setup.
