So now how do I access my CD drive?

I HD installed DSL, and I wanted to throw some applications in and stuff... but yeah- this is my first time in Linux, and I'm totally retarded about it

you have to mount it first. Depending on how youre system is set up, some of the frollowing commands should do it:
Code:
mount /mnt/cdrom
# or
mount /dev/your_harddrive_dev /where/to/mount/
After a succesful mount, you can acess the CD from the mountpoint. When youre done with it, just issue:
Code:
umount /mnt/cdrom
# depending on where you mount if ofcourse
to deattach it and allow the CD tray to open.

Do note that this is a very common problem and you could easily have found the solution by either googling or searching the forum here. Remember this the next time you ask a question (:

With DSL is much more easier to use the facility provided.

On the bottom right corner you should found a square application.

Usually a cd-rom or hard disk is displayed, using the arrows go to your cd-rom drive ( hdc ) and hit the green toggle.

Once this one turns bright green, the device is mounted until you use the toggle once again to unmount it.
