How about useing LOAF? I have a old IBM Thinkpad 486 and I'm trying to put LOAF on it. That is if I can find one that I can download and put on a floppy without errors. Hope it works. Any ideas ? have a HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!

would this distro solve my problem

Hi,

1) I have this problem:

Link to my forum topic

Would this distro solve my problems on PII 266, 196RAM?

2) I also have an old Pentium 133Mhz, 16MB RAM, 400+200MB disks, viperpro graphic, NO CD-BOOT!.
Would this distro work on it? Till now it was win95 computer. I had numerous failures with RH 7, 7.3, Suse 8.0 installs - they all halt at some point .

Thank you in advance
Ales

for what it's worth, my install with Vector linux had only 16MB to work with on a Pentium 60Mhz and only 500Mb of hard disk space. also, i couldn't boot from CD either. had to setup install diskettes and fortunately they were able to detect the CD and install from there.

Here we go getting off topic.....

Try smart boot manager on that old system. It will allow you to boot from your CD even if the BIOS doesn't have the option for it.

For the record, I keep a copy of smartboot manage and DSL (albeit on an 8mm cd9Same size as the floppy with SBM on it, so there's a ton of spare space) as a crash kit for windows machines I support.

Its amazing how much data recovery I have managed from dead windows systems,

A quick reinstall of the OS, and programs, Reinstall user data, and I and my Linux get hero status.

So its not just Cool, but sometime also Tool.

Thanks for the work on this.

Actually I managed to put RedHat (totally totally minimal with X and windowmaker) on 400 mb (/usr) and 200mb (/), withouth pico to save space . I got a chance to learn vi - finally!

The problem is actually viper pro pci graphic card, which I guess won't be supported on Damn Small linux and others, since it is generally unsuported. I managed to get 320x200 in TWM though :-).

First I will change the card for some normal one, then download DSL, and then let you know.
