Mouse not working...

I have a non-descript HP USB Optical mouse, and I am running DSL in Sun's VirtualBox. The mouse just does not work, I don't know where to start with trying to diagnose this problem.

I am not able to launch console windows either (except once when I could do this, but no more). I can navigate to console windows from the start menu (Alt+F1) using the keyboard, but pressing enter is not bringing anything up.

If I start a virtual terminal it immediately boots X.

I would be pleased even if I could get the keyboard navigation keys to work like mouse.

If you are using the OSE (Open Source Edition) of VirtualBox, usb is not supported out-of-the-box.

I know nothing about Sun, but when I have mouse problems in DSL here's what I do:

1) CTRL-ALT-Backspace
2) At the prompt, type "xsetup.sh".
3) Choose XVESA (unless you're SURE you should be using xf bdev)
3) Choose "YES" when asked "USB mouse?"
4) Select your usual/default settings for the rest of the questions. (I use 1024x768 -> 16 bit -> no dpi -> us)
5) At the prompt, type "startx".

Here's the weird thing, if I'm using DSL-Embedded with QEMU, it's the reverse - even if I'm using a USB mouse I have to tell DSL I'm using a PS2 mouse:

1) CTRL-ALT-Backspace
2) At the prompt, type "xsetup.sh".
3) Choose XVESA (unless you're SURE you should be using xf bdev)
4) Choose "NO" when asked "USB mouse?"
5) Choose "YES" when asked "IMPS/2 mouse?"
6) Select your usual/default settings for the rest of the questions.
7) At the prompt, type "startx".

I dunno if that'll help on your particular system, but here's hoping!
