First, I love DSL, but I can't get my internet to work!! This is what I'm dealing with.

Omnibook 5700CTX
56k Ositech Modem with DPI TrumpCard
Normal dialup internet connection..

I can't get it set up. Of course, I'm somewhat of a newbie, so I could be doing the setup incorrectly. It'd be good If I could get a step by step.

Second, I can't get any sound. I don't know what kind of soundcard I have, whatever came with the Omnibook.

Well, I figured out the internet thing. Still need help with sound.

To get sound to work you could try using sndconfig.

First download it with apt-get, "sudo apt-get install sndconfig".
Then just run the command "sndconfig".
It might detect your sound card, it might not, if it doesn't, try messing around with the manual options. If you find a sound card option which you think should work with your setup and you don't get any errors after you choose it, but you still don't hear the sound file, try rebooting. There should be a little volume control square that pops up with the CPU usage bar where you can adjust the volume.

Heh, sorry for the REALLY vague terminology, I'm just as new it this as you are, but hopefully this helps. It worked for me.
