Have a working usb-dsl but it won't finish booting in a VAIO notebook!
 

The working notebook is an eBuddy from Earthwalk, have this working ok since last summer.
When I put the stick in the VGN-AR250G (which has no HD) I've to press <F11> to allow the Phoenix BIOS & Notebook to boot from a usb FD but after a while it stops & have to press the Power Button for a few secs to shutdown & restart again.« It has a CF Card slot & I've a 256MB such card & I was thinking if it might go differently if I put DSL there, that's if the BIOS would permit booting fron there.» Have other issues but for the moment if I can resolve this issue it would be very good.
Does anybody around knows how Sony presents so many dificulties to use another OS in their machines? How to circumvent them?

The above part enclosed within «» symbols does not apply, have that card but it isn't compatible with any slot on the VAIO. Apparently, it's of another variety.

Googling your model of netbook. I saw that Puppy Linux might be viable option for your Netbook.

Can this VAIO boot PL from a CF Card? If true, can I just copy & paste the contents of my FD (which has DSL well & running) & all set? What are the steps I need to take to accomplish this?

It Depends. First do you have a floppy drive that you can make a SmartBootManager
Floppy so as to tell the Vaio to boot from PCMCIA.

Or you won't need it if your bios will boot from PCMCIA (if using a PCMCIA to CF adapter card) is why I am mentioning all of the above.

If you already have a CF slot in the Vaio and can boot from that slot. Then no problem.

You can insert your CF card into another Laptop/Desktop with a CDROM. Boot Puppy Live CD. Run gparted and format CF card as EXT2 file system. Flag it as boot. Label it as root (/)

Run the Puppy universal installer. It has a option on the installer to install to CF. Do a Frugal install and install grub boot loader to mbr of CF card. Tell Bios to boot off CF. Your done.

Thanks rokytnji for responding! Have to mention that I edited my first post after discovering my CF Card from the Axim Pocket PC won't fit any slot of the VAIO, so it's no longer an alternative (at least not directly).
By the way, do you know something about ebcde (an Emergency Boot ...)? I downloaded, decompressed & then put it in an iPod 1GB but, for some strange reason it makes an incongrous appearance of strange characters on the screen & nothing else? I was supposed to burn a cd instead of iPoding it...

Not a clue. All I messed with was SBM and PLOP. I do know if you want to make a floppy that boots a image. You need to write the image bit by bit,
In my Antix Post and In my blog making a SBM Floppy I give the commands and instructions I used to make a bootable floppy image to boot drives.

On the Ipod. It sounds like you did not write a image. But just wrote data to the drive. I have no experience with ipods. I don;t use proprietary mp3 players. Mine is a RCA mp3 player and is stock and works with Linux (interfaces with Linux like Antix).

Thanks rokytnji for responding! I don't want to make a bootable floppy disk because I don't have a floppy drive. I do have some usb ports and a limited amount of extra outside-space for something like a linux distro.
I'm having trouble also with connecting via WiFi from this notebook & with using the IrDA to connect my Dell Axim.
It would be nice if at least one wireless medium could be put to work! That would make other things easier for me & some unwanted/unneeded distractions would magically disappear...

Once you get some kind of Linux Distro to boot up off of pendrive. You should probably open another thread describing your computer make and model. What Distro you are running and how you are running it.

I am not a Wireless Guru. All I do is research which PCMCIA Wireless Cardbus works best with all Linux Distros. Then buy and Plug one of those in to a Older Laptop. Boot up and I am off to the races.

I have had real good luck with These.

If you don't have a PCMCIA slot. Google for a Usb Stick that uses a Linux Compatible Raylink or Atheros Chip in it.
