.dsl packages downloaded from repo not in /tmp ,cant find them nowhere
Hi i'm trying to install some pkgs from the MyDSL repo, but i cant seem to find pkgs in /tmp
only tar.gz get saved in my /home, but then again make ,make install command missing ? i just would like to install some pkgs from the repo .dsl pkgs |
Well, if you "can't find them nowhere," it follows, logically, since that's a double-negative, that you can find then somewhere. (All right, that's a little pedantic, but you shouldn't write "nowhere" when you clearly should have written "anywhere.")
So, where did you look? Do you have the find command implemented? Try a find / | grep -i <package_name> if you do. Otherwise a ls -R / | grep <package_name> should, at least, tell you if the package is somewhere in your file system. Oh, were you perhaps running as "root", so the package(s) might be in /root instead of your home directory? |
found them PTrenholme, :) first time they weren't there, some stuff goes /home( xx.g)z other goes to /tmp (.dsl), but now i get both /home after reinstall (not related to this)
if i'm not wrong , but i can find my downloaded stuff :) but i need help on installing apps/pkgs from dsl repo which commands i need to install besides "make",and one more thing "xzfv" seems missing after second install (this is third so have to try it out to see if it "left me again") :) i know i can try other distros , but i want to try out dsl and explore it's possibilities , |
after second install , i have no problem finding downloads,:)
however , i'm still in the dark about installing/loading .dsl .gz pkgs from dsl repo which commands to install for installing apps 1 sudo apt-get install make 2 sudo apt-get xzfv(does this exist couldn't untar "command missing" 3 what else 4 what more i know how the ./whatever part, so that's ok, i want to install myplayer-plugin.dsl, to start :( i know other distros have appinstallers and are easier , but i trying out dsl |
Sorry,I'm not a DSL user. My comment were only directed to the "how to find a lost file" issue. (Been there, done that ...)
|
ok, i mkdir /mydsl and /mydsl/optional
i mv the mplayer-plugin.dsl to /mydsl is this enough or do i need mplayer.dsl as well (i'm little lost here) will try installing app like mplayer to check first **although the question is about mplayer-plugin now is because it's the first thing i'm trying to install on my dsl |
i followed all steps
but actually still have problems , will try with an app to see if it functions while i installed xampp without any problems , so maybe i'm missing something :) if you follow thread then you know what i've tried for installing stuff of mydsl repo thanx running DSL now will add to "what distro I use", |
BUMPY,
anyone :) |
I can't figure out how to install packages either. I downloaded quite a few, I can find them but have no idea how to install. Also DSL won't connect to my sound board. It finds it on boot up but when I run alsaconf it runs aground. Is there another package I need? I downloaded all alsa packages I could find. Flashplayer, geeze, can't get it either. I'd dump it but it makes my old junk box "fast". I have all the apps I need on my Suse 10.3 main box but it would be nice to have some audio. Can't install T'Bird either.
