.dsl extension?
 

Maybe i just dont know what im doing but i was downloading the newest version of DSL (0.7) and i noticed other files that i could download in the same directory with a .dsl extension. Now ive never seen a .dsl extension and am curious what are these files. The specific site i went to was...

They look like plain applications that i could install but i thought you couldn't install anything when you boot to a live distro like DSL? am i just mistaken on this one? The applications are familiar and i know the size of OpenOffice is around 66mb, which it is showing on the site so i assume its just the application but am thrown off by the .dsl extension, i guess because thats the name of the distro. I think im way off base on this one so slap me and put me in my place.

I also was a little thrown off by this, but after some reading in the forums at DSL's site, I figured it out. What it is for is, that it allows you to run these extra programs with the .dsl extensions while running from the bootable CDrom. The way you do this is simple if you have a thumb drive. Just download them to your thumb drive, then boot to DSL using the CDrom, when the screen gets to the prompt that says "boot", just enter: dsl mydsl=sda1 then hit enter. Now the programs with the .dsl extension will be available to you from DSL after it is booted up, just right click on the desktop and select mydsl. You can also download them to the hard drive and access them that way, by changing the boot parameter to: dsl mydsl=hda1 or which ever is tha partition that you saved them to. Another thing to note is that you can make a custom DSL CDrom with those same .dsl files in the root directory of the CD (oh, BTW no matter how you decide to do this, the .dsl files need to be in the root directory of which ever device you choose). thanks man, that helped alot! i guess i didn't even think about checking the DSL website for any info on this. I'll put them on my pendrive and give it a try.
