Damn Small Linux not working

Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10. I've tried installing Damn Small Linux 4.2.5 on a pendrive, as described in this tutorial. I've completed all the steps mentioned there, however when I try to run DSL from the pendrive using Qemu, I get these errors.

The only thing I've done not exactly as described in the tutorial was the partitioning, because fdisk returned this when I tried to create a new partition:
Code:

Command (m for help): w
The partition table has been altered!

Calling ioctl() to re-read partition table.

WARNING: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 22: Invalid argument.
The kernel still uses the old table.
The new table will be used at the next reboot.

WARNING: If you have created or modified any DOS 6.x
partitions, please see the fdisk manual page for additional
information.
Syncing disks.

so I used gparted and created a FAT32 partition flagged with "boot".

Can this be the cause of the errors?

Thanks,
starsky

your best more informative bet is going to pendrivelinux and look at(choose) the win or Linux usb how-to they really walk you thru it. -reminder, not all usb pens are bootable!
I have a pny 2gig that wont work but the pny 512's do and so does the Toshiba/transmemory-1gig. be wary...

P.S. btw- using qemu? linux from linux, if using qemu is a little harder in linux because it needs to be able to mount the usb drive and then the dsl image. so you have possibly a permissions issue. I just use qemu to mount the livecd and make a hd image for my test/save work and also part it for a little swap.
