booting DSL 4.4.8

Dear memebers,

I can not boot DSL on one of my machines from cd. That machine does not support usb boot. I tried to copy the kernel and initrd on a grub cd and then loaded the kernel and initrd. Then activity stops at "VFS quota". It seems that drivers necessary to access my cd drive are missing in the kernel. Can you please suggest a way out.
