Add applications without booting to DSL?

Hey Guys,

I'm working on getting linux running on an old Winterm I've got. I've already patched the firmware and gotten that far. I'm currently working on building a usb drive for it to boot off of. I want to use DSL for this, however, I'm currently stuck as I can't boot off the drive and install apps to it, so I'm currently just extracting the contents to a folder and chrooting into it. However the DSL install app requires an X interface and won't run.

How does one add applications to it without booting?

DSL has a forum that could help, I think. I am new to Linux and LQ. Are you able to boot to the drive and install apps from something other than the WinTerm? The DSL experts could tell you if there is a way to install apps without an X interface.

I'm running linux right now, Right now I can chroot into the dsl install and tweak things, but all the install apps require a gui as far as I can tell.

Do you have your apps already on the usb drive (you should put them on their if you don't). There's a way to make your apps load on boot (although the site is down at the moment and I can't remember how to do so). But if you want to load them from the command line go to the directory you saved them to on the usb drive and type in:

$ mydsl-load package_name.dsl

(obviouly don't type in the '$')

I hope this helps, post again if this doesn't work.
