A few hours ago I received a conectiva-announce e-mail.

It tells about how Conectiva Linux 9 is the first distro that has ever received the "chave digital para Linux no Brasil". (by the way: Congratulations !!)

Now, a few paragraphs below, I noticed something strange. It says that "...Os navegadores Konqueror, Mozilla e Netscape 7, integrantes do Conectiva linux 9.."

My question: given the fact that Netscape 7 is not GPL, are we supposed to expect a non GPL CL9?

or in other words, how's Conectiva Linux 9 gonna be 100% GPL'ed if it contains NON GPL packages?

In order to distribute the Netscape 7 the Conectiva had to get an authorization and also to include the license in the package, showing it to the user the first time the netscape is used. Is the user who can agree or not with the license to use the program ...

A distro can include packages from several licenses, not only GPL, try to look for the licenses of the packages that you already have installed, you will discover several that are not under the GPL, like mozilla that is under NPL/MPL ...

To know the license of the package you can use rpm with the option -qi.
