$username,

I'm extremely proud to announce that 13 years ago I made the very first post at LQ, which served to introduce it to the world. To say that LQ has exceed my expectations since then would be a monumental understatement. Almost 5 million posts and over a half million members do not even begin to tell the story. The community and mod team that has grown here at LQ is truly amazing and something that I'm very proud to be a part of. I'd like to once again thank each and every LQ member for their participation, dedication and feedback. Without you, LQ quite simply wouldn't exist. To say that feedback has been absolutely critical to our success is also an understatement. With that in mind, I'd like to use http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...en-4175467328/ to collect as much feedback as possible about LQ. What are we doing well and where can we improve? What new features or sections would you like to see? What should we be doing differently? Let us know, we really are listening.

While we run an annual set of polls called the Members Choice Awards, I thought it might be fun to run some semi-official polls periodically throughout the year. Unlike the MCA's these polls will have no set end date and you can see the results real-time. First up, what was your first Linux distribution? Feel free to post, but do make sure to vote as well. Visit http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ro-4175467184/ to cast your vote and http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ns-4175467185/ to let us know if you have an idea for a future poll.

Are you interested in attending OSCON? We're happy to announce that as part of the LQ Birthday Celebration, we've teamed up with O'Reilly to be able to offer a completely gratis pass to OSCON 2013 in Portland, OR (a $1,395 value). Please keep in mind that travel and hotel are not included. Visit http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...lq-4175467478/ for more information.

Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide

This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.
