X problems

Hello all,

I just installed CL on my box and I can not get X to work. I have run xf86config and set everything up and it still will not go into X. I copied my working xf86config-4 over from my working mepis install and still nothing. I have a diamond stealth s60 with the ati radeon 7000 chip on it at 32 megs its a pci card. I have a generic monitor that will do 800x600 at 56hz. When I do try to start X it puts my monitor to sleep.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

By the way other distros see my video card as a ati radeon 7000.

did you check for errors in /var/log/XFree86.0.log ?

I don't know about ATI but I have NVidia and I had to install drivers first and then configure XF86Config-4.

If this is not a driver problem than there has to some problem with XF86Config-4. CL installation messed up mine totally. I had to copy mine from RH9.
Do you have vertical and horizontal rates specified? sometimes this can cause black screen

I had hard time with X on CL and I actually had to learn how to compile kernel to make it work. But It was worth it because I learned a lot.
