programs not showing up


i try to start programs (konqueror, mozilla, kwrite, anything) and it pauses for a few seconds, shows a bar on the taskbar like it's going to open, then that bar disappears and nothing has happened. what am i doing wrong

If you can open a terminal then try starting these programs from the command line. They won't work from the command line either but you should get a meaningful error message.

Makes me wonder why I should ever change from Windows to Linux then !

D. Sappointed - that has got to be the most unhelpful post ever. Jailbait's advice was good - starting the program from a command line will give a meaningful error message and will enable us to see at what point the programs are failing and what they are missing.

If you are unable to offer advice or help to skippuff54, do not bother posting in this thread.
