Disk space usage?
Does anyone know how much hard disk space a default install of CollegeLinux takes? I have two partitions carved out, and was considering putting CollegeLinux on the smaller (6GB) partition. I'm sure it will fit, but I'd like to have an idea of how much space it will take. I tried looking in the CollegeLinux website, and didn't find anything on there about this.

I haven't used College Linux, but I can say from experience that 6 gigs is more than enough for installation, but you will also need space for personal files. From this forum thread ( http://www.collegelinux.org/phorum/r...&i=1684&t=1684) a user has posted that you will need at least 2.5 Gigabytes of space.

You are right, CL requires at least 2.5GB of HD space.

From experience, most linux distros will let you choose how much to install, and depending on how many cds the distro comes with, even a full install won't take up 6 gigs. Just keep in mind you'll need space for personal files, as well.

Yes, I have a separate partition to hold my personal files, so that won't be a problem. I knew it would probably fit pretty well, but I was a little concerned, since I previously had Fedora Core 1 installed on that partition, and it barely fit (not including personal files, which were on a separate partition).

That's due to Redhat/fedora's nature of being a bloated distribution , in other words, more stuff is installed than is wanted or known. Many people have said this before in other threads, and i happen to agree with it. It isn't a bad distribution of linux, it's just requires a lot of space.

Yeah. Fedora Core 1 was ok (though it's been more than a little buggy for me), but on a 6GB partition, the partition was over 95% full...
